WISEGUYS ITALIAN GREYHOUND
RESCUE
Did you know...

IGs have large teeth in
small mouths, so proper
dental care is a must!
Did you know...

While seemingly fragile,
IGs are active in many
areas such as agility,
therapy, and coursing
events.
Isabel
Please meet Isabel!  She is a very
special girl who is looking for just the
right home to really turn her life
around!  She is approximately six years
old, current on shots, and spayed.

Isabel's story is a sad one, and one that
so many dogs go through in order to
produce the puppies that you see at
petstores.  See, Isabel is a former
puppymill mom.  She was used to
produce litter after litter of puppies to
make money for someone with little
heart, and no sympathy.  Because of
this, Isabel is looking for a quiet home,
and a family that will be very patient
with her.

When Isabel first came into rescue two
years ago, she had never walked on
grass, had never been through a
doorway, and had rarely been held.  We
were fortunate enough to foster her
and watch her blossom in a loving
home.  Its AMAZING to watch a former
mill dog learn about the finer things in
life!!

Isabel was adopted by a wonderful lady
who had already adopted Giovanni.
However, recently the owner's work
has her travelling extensively and she
very tearfully had to put Giovanni and
Isabel back into rescue.

We know Isabel very, very well
because we've babysat her many, many
times in the past two years.  She is like
one of our own and it is our greatest
wish that she find the perfect family.
After all, she has been used for greed
and needs a life of luxury...she
deserves it!!!

If you are a special person who would
like to show Isabel just how great life
can be, please let us know.  We realize
that not everyone is up to the task of
showing Isabel the love, compassion,
and fun that she deserves.  But we can
assure you that your heart will never
be the same if you take this little girl
and give her the life she deserves!!!
Ricky
Now I don't know about you, but we
here at Wiseguys ADORE easy
going, housetrained dogs!
Nothing makes us smile like a dog
who loves to watch tv (and we
mean actually watch it!) and who
sticks to us like glue.

And that describes Ricky to a T!!!

Ricky is a seven year old baby with
the personality like no other!  This
little guy is SO happy to sit on the
couch with you, play fetch, and
stretch out in the grass!  His
mellow attitude would be PERFECT
for someone in an apartment or
condo!  In fact, Ricky rarely makes
a peep, making him perfect for
those with close neighbors!

Ricky would like a family who wants
a true buddy to sleep in bed with
them.  He would need a 6ft fence if
his new family has a yard, but
again, would be perfectly happy
with an urban loft!

Ricky also does great with cats!

So if you truly want an extremely
loveable buddy to share your life
(and bed!), please let us know!
Please meet Charlie!  He's a very shy
seven year old italian greyhound.
Charlie is very special because he has
one eye and no tail.  He loves to follow
people around, but is just very shy.
He would like to be an only dog and is
looking for a family that will be patient
with him and his shyness.

Charlie is not a small ig, but is tall and
elegant.  He enjoys being talked to
and getting kisses on his cheeks.  He
will even creep up and lay his cheek
on your mouth so that you can give
him plenty of kisses!

If you're a patient person, with a quiet
home for Charlie to blossom into a
confident guy, please email us for
more information on Charlie!
These are some of Kylie's puppies (see success page for photos of
Kylie).   She came into rescue pregnant and had seven babies on
7-27-07.
These puppies are now fixed and ready for adoption.  Because Kylie
was a mix, the boys are bigger than an average ig, though we're certain
the dad was a purebred ig.  The girls are around the average purebred
ig size.

These puppies are very social but would benefit from a basic obedience
class.  We at Wiseguys aren't overly experienced with tiny puppies but
we've done our best to get them used to life in the big world!

They will need to continue working on housetraining and crate training,
as well as  (hey, its a puppy thing ya know!).

If you are interested in bringing a playful, clumsy puppy into your life
and family, please let us know!
Charlie
Kylie's Babies
Checkers
This is Puzzle.  She is the largest of the girls, though
still around 15 pounds.  She is a lanky teenage girl with
a great personality!  Since she was old enough to
crawl, Puzzle has been the most inquisitive of Kylie's
babies.  She listens very well and has a very
happy-go-lucky personality.  She is doing exceptionally
well with housetraining and crate training, and will
need a family that will continue to help her with these
things.
Puzzle is a quiet girl (not a lot of barking) and though
she thinks toys are OK, her favorite pastime is a good
tummy rub!  As you can see from her photos, she can
run quickly and has slightly thicker bones than a
purebred ig.  She might do well at agility with the
proper training.

Puzzle is spayed, current on shots, and ready for her
grown-up life!
Puzzle
This is Checkers.  He (like Bingo and Domino) is a big
boy at around 21 pounds.  Checkers is a goofball who
is doing very with his crate training.  He'll still need help
with some leash training and housetraining, but he's a
very sweet boy who wants nothing more than to be
with his people.

Because of his size, he isn't quite as breakable as a
standard ig.  However, he's not a "tough guy" and
cannot tolerate being left outside in the cold.  He needs
to be treated like a little fella, but is a big goofball!

Checkers would benefit from a basic obedience class
and seems to do well with other dogs.  His personality
type is slightly shy, with a dash of cartoon character!

Blue in Illinois
Blue's foster mom writes....

We've had Blue now for about 3 weeks and
I have to say we fell instantly in love with
him. As you can see from his picture, he is a
gorgeous boy. The pictures hardly do him
justice, any place we've taken him we
always hear, "wow, he is beautiful".

Blue is 10 years old and came from a home
where he was the only dog, so here at his
foster home he is learning to live with other
dogs. I'll be honest, he does not like other
dogs. Luckily my dogs have adapted well to
his "crankiness" about being around other
dogs, and each day, Blue gets more used to
living with other dogs. He has made so
much progress in 3 weeks.

If I had to sum up Blue in one word, it would
be sweet. Blue sleeps with us (and his
siblings) and from the second he wakes up
he is so happy. He wakes me up with kisses
on the cheek and his tail is going crazy and
he's hopping up ready to start his day. He is
100% a "people dog", he wants to be with
his people. When we are home you can
always find Mr. Blue, next to one of us on
the couch. He loves belly rubs and lots of
snuggling.

Blue has epilepsy, but hasn't had a seizure
for years. He is on Phenobarbital and takes
a pill twice a day. He is very good about
taking his pill as long as you trick him with it
stuck inside a treat. Blue loves pillows and
blankets. He can most often be found next
to me  with his head buried in the blanket.

I hadn't had much exposure to 3 legged
dogs prior to Blue, and I have to say he
amazes me. I was prepared to carry him up
and down the stairs but he gets up and
down them almost as well as our other
dogs. he hops up on the couch, uses stairs,
"nests" his blanket to his liking. I don't think
Blue knows he only has 3 legs. I can
honestly say of we didn't have any dogs, we
would adopt Blue in a heartbeat.

He is so sweet and loving and mild
tempered. he just wants love and blankets
and cuddles and he's a happy boy. his ideal
home would be with people who are home
a lot, and who will love and treat him like
the prince that he is. If you have any
questions about Mr. Blue, please don't
hesitate to ask. We'll be so sad to see him
go, but his perfect home would only have 1
dog....him.

Blue is available in the Illinois area.
Vivian in Arizona
***AVAILABLE IN THE ARIZONA
AREA***

Please say hello to Vivian!

She is approximately 18 months
old, and was found at a local
shelter.

Vivian is a very sweet girl, and gets
along well with other dogs.  She Is
doing great with her leash training
and is a great little walking
companion!

Vivian is spayed, current on shots
and ready for her new home!
Micia - In Colorado
Please say hello to Micia!!

She is a chihuahua-mix who LOVES
people!  She is 2 1/2 years old and
just an all-around great girl!

Micia is very good with people but
would prefer to be an only dog.  She
sleeps in bed, does very well with
her house and crate training.  She
LOVES playing soccer (running along
and kicking her ball) and would do
well as an apartment or condo dog.

Micia likes to go for walks and is calm
enough to be a great companion to
an older person, but would do
equally great with people of any age!

Micia is current on shots and spayed,
and ready for her new family!
Bella - In Colorado
This is Bella!!  She is a six
month-old purebred italian
greyhound.

Bella is still a baby and will need
continued potty training and
leash training.  She is very
outgoing and friendly and seems
to have no fear of people.  She
gets along well with other small
dogs, expecially other igs!

Bella just arrived in rescue, and
will be spayed very soon!

If you think Bella might be your
new best friend, drop us a line!
Dolly - courtesy posting
Dolly was originally surrendered from her owners,
who have had her since she was a pup because
they were moving. As her foster parent this is what I
can tell you about our Dolly.

What is not to love about this little girl; she's quiet,
she cuddles, she's potty trained (uses doggy door
too), and she has personality.

Dolly is 10 yrs. old and that scares many potential
adopters away. (Small dogs like Dolly can live
anywhere up to 15-17 years old.) We have taken
Dolly to the Vet and these are the items we have
found out. She had dental disease and only has 6
teeth, so she will need a soft diet. Due to an eye
infection Dolly has one eye that is not working and is
sunken back creating a water eye at times, this
does not bother her though. She has a broken nasal
cavity that causes sinus drainage down the back of
her throat which she clears with a cough. She also
has a slightly enlarged heart.

Potential adopters should know; Dolly is good with
other dogs and enjoys the companionship, however
the other dogs should not be young boisterous pups
but an older more sedate dog. We are not sure how
she does with cats but with her personality I am
sure it would be fine. Dolly would be best with a
couple without young children or no children at all.

Dolly is in the Phoenix area, but can easily be
adopted to California as well!  If you are interested in
Dolly, please contact Holly at holly@silverhounds.org
Joey - in Nevada
Joey is a very happy boy, but is also quite unsure
of himself.
Nothing makes him happier than playing ball with
his person....he will fetch his ball until the human
can't throw it anymore.

Joey has made great strides since coming to
Wiseguys, but still has a ways to go. Joey would
thrive in a household as an "only child", but would
also do well with one or two other small dogs.
Joey seems to be obsessed with cats, especially
feral, scaredy cats.... if they run, he will chase
them; it's a game he enjoys almost as much as
fetching his ball.

It has taken some coaxing, but Joey will finally
spend time in the same room as his foster mom &
other fur kids, on the couch or chair. He is still not
comfortable sleeping on the bed and prefers to
sleep in the front room & keep watch on the
house.

Joey still lifts his leg in the house, (probably the
reason he was surrendered) and after the first
week, his foster mom resorted to putting a belly
band on him (which he excitedly lets her do upon
coming inside). This issue will require work &
patience, but he is very smart and trainable!!!

Joey is a precious guy that just needs lots of love
and guidance..... he will make a wonderful
addition to the lucky family that adopts him!
