Wiseguys Italian Greyhound Rescue is a state-licensed rescue and was founded
on the belief that in most cases, the only thing standing between a homeless pet
and a forever home, is time. Although we specialize in Italian Greyhounds, we
will do whatever we can to help an animal in need. For this reason, we do not
turn away IG-mixes or other small dogs that we can help. If we cannot help an
animal, than we do our best to find someone that can. This is why we are active
in assisting other rescues with things like transports, homevisits, and keeping
our eyes out at shelters for those dogs that can be assisted by rescue. In other
words, if we can help....we do. And gladly!
We feel that the best gift we can give a homeless dog is time to find the right
family, without the stress of a shelter environment, where a dog's true
personality may not blossom or be noticed. We are based in Colorado, but are
willing to assist wherever and whenever we can.
It is our policy to help those who must surrender their dog; those dogs that may
be in shelters, and those who choose to adopt from rescue rather than buy a dog.
Our surrender policy is simple. We do not judge those who must surrender; that
is not our place, and we feel the ultimate act of love and caring is to surrender a
dog that one can no longer care for. This is why we do our best to make the
transition easy, and one that the surrendering family will feel comfortable with.
Our adoption procedure is equally simple. We ask that the adoptor complete an
application and submit it to us. We then schedule a homevisit in which a
representative of Wiseguys will visit the home and make sure it is safe for dogs.
This is not an interrogation, nor are we the "home police". However, the dogs
are our first priority and we just like to make sure that the home is a safe one for
them!!
We operate solely on donations, out-of-pocket, and from our adoption fees. In
most cases, the adoption fee does not cover the expenses of spaying/neutering,
shots, dentals, etc. So we do various fundraisers in order to make up the
difference. ALL funds raised by Wiseguys through adoption fees are used ONLY
for vet bills, all other expenses are covered through fundraisers, donations, and
out-of-pocket. We do not receive any government grants, tax breaks, etc (we
have had many people ask us why we do rescue if we receive no money. To
them, we simply say, "because these dogs need help!!!")
Wiseguys DOES NOT place dogs that are not spayed or neutered. There are
PLENTY of homeless animals in this world and we do not want to be a part of the
problem, but rather part of the solution. This also means that we encourage
those who may not see a Wiseguys dog that suits their family, to check their
local shelters, rescues, etc.
Our iggies do not discriminate based on race, religion, or sexual
orientation. In fact, the Wiseguys iggies love all humans the
same!
